Undergraduate Programs
2013-03-25

The faculty offers three undergraduate majors in mechanical engineering and automation, industrial engineering and Packaging engineering, with the choices of concentration available in various programs. The central mission is to develop future engineers with the profuse knowledge and proficient skills to go beyond the boundaries of traditional disciplines and find innovative solutions to new engineering problems.

Over the years, the faculty has been dedicated to opening up opportunities and providing a well-rounded training to help students grow professionally and personally. They are active participants and worthy winners of many national and international competitions such as the Student Design Competition of ASME, NI and the Formula SAE. The competitiveness of our students goes beyond the job market and they are highly sought after by employers from academia, industry and government agencies.

Mechanical Engineering and Automation

The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Automation was initially founded in 1954 and formerly known as the Mechanical branch of Kunming Institute of Technology. In 1997, the Mechanical Engineering and Automation Specialty was set up by reorganizing other related majors (e.g., Mechanical Manufacturing and Equipment, Mechanical &Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Design), and now it is the a municipal key specialty, and national distinctive specialty.

The central mission of the department is to cultivate students according to the discipline of mechanical engineering, to strengthen their basic and general knowledge, to broaden specialties' orientations, and to develop students' innovation capability. For recruiting and training high-level technique elites and industry leaders in mechanical engineering field, the department has set up a perfect degree education system, with PhD degree program of Mechanical Design and Theory, Master degree program of Mechanical Design and Theory, Mechanical Manufacturing and Automation, Mechanical & Electrical Engineering and Automotive Engineering, etc. It is also the host of 3 municipal key laboratories.

Main courses: Engineering cartography, Engineering Mechanics, Electronic and Electrical Basis, Engineering Materials, Mechanics of Materials, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Manufacturing, Control Engineering, Engineering Test and Diagnosis, PLC and Application, Computer-aided Design, Fluid Transmission and Control, etc.

Packaging Engineering

The Department of Packaging Engineering aims to recruit and cultivate high-level technique elites and industry leaders. For this purpose, extensive courses are designed to strengthen the students’ basic and general knowledge, to broaden their special knowledge, capability in mechanical packaging field. The graduate can perform as a qualified technician or senior researcher in the topics of package design, quality control and engineering managements.

Main research direction include: packaging and protection structure design with anti-corrosion, anti-rust, anti-shock properties; printing plate design, printing processing; operation and maintenance of printing equipment; printing quality control and management; packaging production design of metal, plastic, paper and other packaging containers; packaging production management and maintenance, etc.

Main courses: Engineering Materials, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Manufacturing, Control Engineering, Engineering Cartography, Engineering Mechanics, Electronic and Electrical basis, Packaging and Printing basis, Packaging Design, Computer-aided Design, etc.

Industrial Engineering

The Department of Industrial Engineering offers industrial engineering courses to strengthen the students’ basic and general knowledge, to broaden their special knowledge and innovation capability in industrial engineering and system management, and to train and cultivate high-level technician or senior researcher in the industrial engineering programming and design, evaluation and management.

The major topics of the Department of Industrial Engineering include: Production Systems Engineering, Logistics and Supply Chain management, Quality and Reliability and Service Engineering. The graduates can be found in government, industry commerce as well as companies.

Main courses: Industrial Engineering Basis, Electronic and Electrical Basis, Engineering Materials, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Manufacturing, System Engineering, Accountancy, Information System Management, Engineering Economics, Manufacturing Design and Control, Quality and Reliability, etc.
